kiran nigamkiran's goal is to help fortify our communities so that we may be healthier, happier, stronger, and more effective in bringing about justice and transformation. She recently founded Fortify Community Health as a vehicle to integrate her skills and experience in facilitation, education, and functional nutrition. Through Fortify, kiran works as an educator, facilitator, and nutritional therapy consultant with individuals and organizations to support healing, health, and well being at all levels.
kiran's experience living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a chronic connective tissue syndrome, is what fueled her interest in functional nutrition and led her to voraciously study the world of complimentary medicine and healing practices. She believes strongly that food is our most ancient form of healing, medicine, and magic and that our ancestral food ways are the accumulation of thousands of years of expertise and wisdom. She offers one on one consultations and nutrition education, utilizing food, plants, meditation and lifestyle practices as medicine, with a special interest in supporting people struggling with chronic and persistent health conditions to feel better every day. kiran has two decades of facilitation experience. She incorporates her healing practice as well as education background into her facilitation and consulting: utilizing visuals to map information and maximize group effectiveness, integrating space for reflection and introspection in workshops, centering her work in love and compassion, using body-based tools to support learning and ease group decision-making, and in general welcoming and recognizing our whole selves (body, mind, and spirits) into political work. Previous to Fortify, kiran was a founding member and worker-owner of AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance) where she worked at local, regional, and national levels to build movements for social justice and a solidarity economy. kiran lives in the in-betweens: she is mixed race, multi-cultural, and queer. She has an invisible disability. She calls many places "home." A proud Virgo, nerd, and lifelong learner, kiran cooks, makes potions, draws, and is mid-way through co-writing two books: a children's book about natural home birth, and a values-based finance toolkit for small to medium sized participatory groups. https://fortifycommunityhealth.com/ |
