Practical Skills

Group picture in a community garden, under a wooden arch that says

This area is all about developing the practical skills that can help us divest from oppressive systems and institutions by building/investing in alternative ones and developing skills to take care of ourselves and each other. We will have workshops on:
  • community organizing
  • building black power through local electoral politics
  • earth skills (growing our own food in community, permaculture principles, greywater systems)
  • basic handy-person skills
  • "know your rights" training and ICE defense
  • basic street medic skills
  • nonviolent direct action training
  • circle work and restorative justice processes
  • copwatch training
  • basic bike repair and maintenance
  • building community-based economies through local cooperative businesses
  • participatory action research
  • basic self-defense
  • how to reduce reliance on the police
  • how to fund our justice work
  • facilitation skills
  • digital security
Creating Freedom Movements nurtures visionary grassroots leaders who build beloved community, cross-issue solidarity and infrastructures of justice & joy. We heal people and the planet by moving from cultures of separation & domination to cultures of connection & reciprocity.
