Stacey Park MilbernStacey is a disability justice organizer living in Oakland, CA. She has been in movement leadership roles since she was 16 years old; most of her writing and political work focuses on her experiences at the intersections of race, ability, gender and sexuality.
Initially from North Carolina, Stacey organized for seven years with disabled youth of color in the South and then at the national level. Now Bay Area-based, she is a disability justice thought leader with twelve years of experience incubating leadership programs, managing services programs, and providing technical assistance to organizations wanting to increase their capacity around disability and supporting marginalized communities. Stacey has worked with Sins Invalid, a performance project that celebrates artists with disabilities and is led by disabled queer people of color and disabled queer and gender non-conforming people. She has trained many community organizations and served as an appointed advisor to the Obama administration for two years. Most recently, she founded the Disability Justice Culture Club, an activist house in East Oakland designed with accessibility in mind, that serves as a gathering place for disabled BIPOC community via events, meetings, and meals. Stacey earned her MBA from Mills College in 2015. The above bio was written by Stacey when she became a Core Team member of Creating Freedom Movements. We mourn her untimely passing on May 19, 2020.
